Our guide will be ready to meet you off your plane and after a quick briefing you will set off on a game drive back to camp. Begin to get your bearings either on the banks of the Mara River in the Serengeti or along Serengeti kopjes of northern Serengeti. Once at camp, lunch will be served with an opportunity to relax and settle in. In the afternoon head back out into the wilderness with your guide and begin to discover the wonderful wild world at your fingertips. Arriving back in camp at sundown, there’s a chance to freshen up before enjoying your first dinner under the stars before reticent to the campfire for a bedcap.
Depending on your preference, there are a couple of options in regards to how your day is structured. One option is to break camp early and head out with a picnic breakfast on a morning game activity, returning to camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon you can do another game activity or opt to relax by the pool with a good book. Alternatively, you can eat breakfast in camp and head out on your game drive with a picnic lunch, returning in the mid-afternoon. Both camps offer game drives and walking safaris, which is an opportunity to discover tiny creatures, animal tracking, and wildlife criteria.
You’ll spend three days with us in the bush before hopping on a plane and making your way to the coast and the tropical islands of Zanzibar or Fanjove, for the remainder of your honeymoon.
Flying from Serengeti to Zanzibar, you’ll be collected at Zanzibar airport and taken on the 90-minute drive to Matemwe Retreat.
During your stay at Matemwe Retreat you will have your own rooftop deck and plunge pool with panoramic views of Zanzibar’s coastline. You’ll be treated to a private butler and chef, so there’s really no need to leave your villa. However, if you do feel like venturing out, there’s plenty to do that will keep you busy. After breakfast, you can take a stroll down the beach, head out on a snorkelling excursion, or take part in one of the many activities available on the island. A romantic lunch on your private sandbank, “Infinity Island” is a must for couples looking to do something different. Matemwe is just a 60-minute drive from Stone Town, allowing for easy day trips to all corners of the island. Your three days spent with us at Matemwe can be as busy or as relaxed as you please.
After arriving at the secluded Fanjove Private Island you will settle into your A-framed wooden banda which is open at its front to capitalise on the uninterrupted ocean views. The whole property has been designed to minimize its environmental footprint. Solar power is employed for all the rooms, and the buildings use traditional, natural materials – sustainable wood, makuti (palm leaves) and thatch. Over the next few days why not act out your Robinson Crusoe fantasies. The island is home to thousands of sea birds, nesting turtles and coconut crabs! Explore the area with a sandbank picnic, go kayaking around the island, go fishing – or snorkel or scuba dive along the 11 km of virgin coral reef.
From Matemwe Retreat you will be driven back to Zanzibar Airport, a journey of approximately 90 minutes, where you will check-in for your international flight home.
From Fanjove Private Island you will take the 45 minute boat journey to Songo Songo island before flying back to Dar es Salaam where you will check-in for your international flight home.
